When you finish the Core pass, you'll have this written down
- A map of where your evening time actually goes
- Your bedtime runway: the forty minutes before the routine
- A sequence your child can follow without narration
- Your after-goodnight response plan for repeated returns
- Your 7-day test and a low-energy version of the evening
How it is used

90 pages in total, Core first and Deep Dive after.
The mechanism, step by step
01Map the evening
You write down where the time actually goes, hour by hour, before changing anything.
02Build the runway
You decide what belongs in the forty minutes before bedtime, because those decide the hour after it.
03Fix the sequence
You set an order the child can follow without an adult narrating every step.
04Decide once
The choices that get renegotiated nightly get settled permanently, in writing.
05Plan for after goodnight
A written response to repeated returns, so it does not depend on how tired you are.
06Test for 7 days
A week of running the system with one line each night about what broke.
There is a version built for solo evenings, split shifts and two-home weeks, so this does not require two adults to work.
If you only have 20 minutes
Map one evening, write the sequence and settle two decisions you keep renegotiating. That is a real result, and you never have to finish all 90 pages.
The routine is fine on paper. Bath, pyjamas, teeth, book, lights. What the paper does not show is the eleven separate reminders, the negotiation about water, the second goodnight, the third goodnight, and the adult sitting on the stairs at half past nine wondering where the evening went.
You cannot control the minute a child falls asleep. You can control the runway into bedtime, the sequence, your own response and how many moments require a fresh decision.
That is the part this workbook works on.
This is not a sleep-training program
There is no prescribed sleep duration here, no method for making a child sleep alone, and no promise that a child will stop needing closeness at night.
This workbook treats bedtime as a family system challenge. The difficulty is usually friction: transitions, choices, adult responses and repeated negotiation, not sleep itself.
It works with your sleep arrangement, whatever it is. Independent sleep is not the definition of success in these pages.

A look inside
3 of 90 pages shown at full size. Nothing here is a mock-up — these are the pages you print.
This is for you if
- Bedtime turns into reminders, bargaining, stalling and long goodbyes
- The routine changes depending on which adult is exhausted
- Repeated returns after goodnight are eating your evening
- You want a system rather than a lecture about perfect sleep
Probably not for you if
- You want an exact sleep-duration schedule by age
- You want a prescriptive sleep-training method
- There are health, breathing, pain or medication concerns. Those deserve professional support.
What this is built on
This workbook is not original research. It is a practical translation of work by people who did the research, tested against one ordinary family over several months. Here is what was read while writing it, and what each book actually contributed.
Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child — Marc Weissbluth
Timing, sleep pressure and why a routine that runs too long stops working.
The Happy Sleeper — Heather Turgeon & Julie Wright
The predictable, short sequence the workbook builds on, and how to hold it without escalating.
It’s Never Too Late to Sleep Train — Craig Canapari
What to do when a child keeps leaving the room after the routine has ended.

Questions people ask before buying
- What exactly do I get?
- A 90-page interactive PDF workbook, formatted for US Letter. Core is the first pass, Deep Dive is the troubleshooting library. Print it or fill it in digitally in any PDF reader that supports annotation.
- How is it delivered?
- Instantly. After checkout you land on a download page, and the same link is emailed to you so you can come back to it later.
- How long does it take?
- Core takes about 60 to 90 minutes, followed by a 7-day test in normal family life. Deep Dive is meant to be read in pieces, when a specific situation comes up.
- Can I get a refund?
- It is a digital file, so it cannot be returned once downloaded. If it is not what you expected, write to hello@parentinglifelab.com within 14 days and we will sort it out.
- Do I need to buy the other guides too?
- Bedtime Without the Battle is complete on its own. The guides share a language, so they stack well, which is why two or more come with a discount — and until 31 August the 15% welcome offer stacks on top. None of them assume you own another one.
- Is there a low-energy version?
- Yes. Every guide has a low-energy mode: the smallest version of the system that still works during illness, deadlines, travel and the weeks you have nothing left.
