One evening of reading and writing, and you finish with your own plan on paper — not another article to remember.

Free advice says present a united front. This gives you the sorted disagreements, the short list of what really needs consistency and a signed one-page agreement.

Do the style-standard-value sort and write the short consistency list. Three or four agreed lines on paper already stop most of the reversals, and you never have to finish all 87 pages.

Taking more than one? Any 2 guides save 15 percent, and the full library saves 25.

What you'll walk away with

When you finish the Core pass, you'll have this written down

  • A written list of what you two actually agree on
  • A way to back a decision you disagree with, in the moment
  • An end to the override and to answer shopping
  • Your written parenting agreement, both names on it
  • Your 7-day test of holding the same line

How it is used

  1. 1Core60–90 minutesRead it in one evening and fill in your own plan as you go.
  2. 27-day testOne weekRun the plan for a week. One small change per day, nothing rebuilt overnight.
  3. 3Deep DiveWhen it breaksCome back to the section for the situation that went wrong, and adjust.

87 pages in total, Core first and Deep Dive after.

How it works

The mechanism, step by step

  1. 01Separate the differences

You sort your disagreements into style, standard and value, because only one of those needs solving.

  2. 02Write the short list

You name the handful of areas where mixed messages actually cause damage, and leave the rest different.

  3. 03Agree on the in-the-moment move

You decide how to back a decision you disagree with, and where the disagreement goes afterwards.

  4. 04Move the enforcement

You transfer boundary-holding off one adult, in writing, so it does not drift back within a fortnight.

  5. 05Sign the agreement

A one-page parenting agreement both names go on, with a review date so it does not quietly expire.

  6. 06Test for 7 days

One week of holding the same line, then a review that does not relitigate everything.

If the other adult will not sit down with it, the two-homes section covers being consistent unilaterally. It is less than half the value, and worth knowing before you buy.

If you only have 20 minutes

Do the style-standard-value sort and write the short consistency list. Three or four agreed lines on paper already stop most of the reversals, and you never have to finish all 87 pages.

One of you says no. Ten minutes later the other says yes, usually without knowing. The child learns which adult to ask, and the two of you learn to brace slightly whenever the other one is handling something.

The goal is not identical parenting. Children are fine with adults who have different temperaments and thresholds.

The challenge is mixed messages, public corrections, repeated reversals and one adult carrying all the enforcement.

This is not couples therapy

You do not need to improve romance, closeness or the whole adult relationship to use this. Same Team is about parenting alignment, and it works between separated co-parents, grandparents and step-parents as well as couples.

It also does not ask you to perform unity. Children can tell when adults are pretending to agree, and the pretending costs more than the difference does.

What you build is a written agreement about where consistency genuinely matters, which is a much shorter list than most people expect.

What is inside the workbook

10 short parts across Core and Deep Dive, written to be used rather than read once.

  1. 01

    Where you actually disagree

Separating differences of style, standard and value, because only one of those needs solving.

  2. 02

    The short consistency list

The handful of areas where mixed messages cause real damage, and everything you can safely leave different.

  3. 03

Backing a decision you disagree with

What to do in the moment, and where to take the disagreement afterwards.

  4. 04

    Ending the override

How to stop reversing each other in front of the child without swallowing every objection.

  5. 05

    The default enforcer

When one adult holds every boundary, how the load transfers and what it takes to make it stick.

  6. 06

    Answer shopping

What to do when a child has learned which adult to ask, without making them feel caught out.

  7. 07

    Blended families and step-parents

Authority, loyalty and the questions worth settling before they turn into incidents.

  8. 08

    Co-parenting across two homes

What can be agreed, what cannot, and how to be consistent unilaterally when the other house will not cooperate.

  9. 09

    Your parenting agreement

A one-page document you both sign off on, plus a review date so it does not quietly expire.

  10. 10

    The 7-day test

Running the agreement for a week and reviewing it without relitigating everything.

A look inside

Your parenting agreement, written down and testable

3 of 87 pages shown at full size. Nothing here is a mock-up — these are the pages you print.

This is for you if

  • One adult says no and the other says yes
  • You correct each other in front of the child
  • One of you has become the default enforcer
  • You are co-parenting across two homes and need something workable

Probably not for you if

  • You want the other adult to be told they are wrong
  • You are looking for relationship repair rather than parenting alignment
  • There is fear, coercion or retaliation for disagreement. That is not what this workbook can solve.

What this is built on

This workbook is not original research. It is a practical translation of work by people who did the research, tested against one ordinary family over several months. Here is what was read while writing it, and what each book actually contributed.

  • The Explosive Child — Ross W. Greene

Separating the moment from the rule, so two parents can back each other now and disagree properly later.

  • No-Drama Discipline — Daniel J. Siegel & Tina Payne Bryson

Discipline as teaching rather than winning, which is what makes a united front possible without pretending to agree.

  • Parenting from the Inside Out — Daniel J. Siegel & Mary Hartzell

Why your own childhood shows up in the arguments about strictness, and how to notice it mid-disagreement.

Questions people ask before buying

What exactly do I get?
A 87-page interactive PDF workbook, formatted for US Letter. Core is the first pass, Deep Dive is the troubleshooting library. Print it or fill it in digitally in any PDF reader that supports annotation.
How is it delivered?
Instantly. After checkout you land on a download page, and the same link is emailed to you so you can come back to it later.
How long does it take?
Core takes about 60 to 90 minutes, followed by a 7-day test in normal family life. Deep Dive is meant to be read in pieces, when a specific situation comes up.
Can I get a refund?
It is a digital file, so it cannot be returned once downloaded. If it is not what you expected, write to hello@parentinglifelab.com within 14 days and we will sort it out.
Do I need to buy the other guides too?
Same Team is complete on its own. The guides share a language, so they stack well, which is why two or more come with a discount — and until 31 August the 15% welcome offer stacks on top. None of them assume you own another one.
Is there a low-energy version?
Yes. Every guide has a low-energy mode: the smallest version of the system that still works during illness, deadlines, travel and the weeks you have nothing left.
